FATHER LOUIS DEGAETANO TRANSFERRED
Bishop DiMarzio has reassigned Fr. Lou to St. Kevin's in Flushing. He
has been here for
11 years at St. Francis de Sales. He will miss the people of this parish
who supported him so much
over the years. We have been so lucky to be able have such wonderful
priests from the diocese to
serve in our parish. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, June 29th
as we will have a farewell Mass
at 12:00 Noon for Fr. Lou. Please pray for Fr. Lou as he takes on new
challenges at St. Kevin's Parish.
- Msgr. John J. Brown
BE COUNTED AGAIN
Bishop DiMarzio and our Diocesan Office for Pastoral Planning requires
each parish in Brooklyn and
Queens to count every individual who comes to Sunday Mass the weekends
of May 3/4 and 17/18.
Our ushers will be "clicking" you during these two weekends.
Those numbers will be used by the
diocese in planning the assignments of priests and even whether some
parishes will have to be closed or
merged in the next few years.
It is important that you be counted. Please show up for Mass and invite
a friend or neighbor or family
member to join you.
I would like to make this an evangelization opportunity. It really is
not about the institutional life of our
parish, but the spiritual life of our parishioners.
Many Catholic have drifted away from the tradition of never missing
Mass. Polls tell us that about
25% of Catholics go to Mass every week. Our parish statistics are a
little better than the national average, but not enough better.
We have a spirit here in Rockaway and in St. Francis de Sales that prides
itself on community
participation. This should always be manifested in the lives of us Catholics
by our faithfulness to the
Sunday Mass.
Come to Mass for your own sake. Listen to God's word proclaimed for
the deepening of your life.
Most of all enjoy once again the awesome celebration of the Eucharist.
Be reminded that God loves you
and is always ready to forgive.
Please come to Mass. Your parish needs you. It counts with God. And
it will be counted in the
diocese. Thanks, Msgr. Brown
ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
Our Annual Catholic Appeal got off a terrific start. Thanks to the generous
response of so many parishioners. If you haven't made a pledge, there
are pledge envelopes in the back of the church. Together we can do a
lot. Please make a pledge. Our goal is $104,500.00, so far pledges are
up to $128,032.00. We need everyone's support in this Appeal. Remember
everything over the goal comes back to our parish. Thank you. - Msgr.
Brown
