Summer 2008
Divisions and Eligibility
A. 2nd Grade: Boys and Girls completing the 2nd grade
B. Boys Grammar Junior: Boys completing the 3rd through 4th grades
C. Girls Grammar Junior: Girls completing the 3rd through 4th grades
D. Boys Grammar Middle: Boys completing the 5th through 6th grades
E. Girls Grammar Middle: Girls completing the 5th through 6th grades
F. Boys Grammar Senior: Boys completing the 6th through 8th grades
G. Girls Grammar Senior: Girls completing the 6th through 8th grades
H. High Schools: Boys and Girls completing the 9th through 12th
grades
I. Open Leagues: Men and Women out of high school and graduating

Eligibility:
SFDS parish members who register on time are guaranteed placement
in the Summer Classic. Non-parish members and/or late registrations
are considered on a space available basis. Past participation does
not guarantee placement this year.
Deadlines and registration:
Registration for all Youth divisions will be at the time designated
in the St. Francis de Sales Church bulletin and posted on the "sfdsparish.org"
web site. The Fees for Summer 2008 are as follows:
Grammar School: $60. High School: $75.
Non-Parish Players: There is a $5.00 surcharge. Late Registration:
There is a $25 surcharge for any registration after May 17, 2008
There will be a maximum of 12 players per
team in the grammar school and high school divisions. Open League
teams must file a completed, signed roster by May 15 (no exceptions).
The roster must contain a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of
12 players. Penalty for use of an ineligible player is forfeiture
of all games to that point.
Men's Open League Entry fee is $1200 and
Women's Open League Entry fee is $1200 and includes shirts and shorts
for every rostered player. Checks will be payable to St. Francis
Summer Classic and are due by May 22nd. Any team not paid in full
by May 22nd will not be considered for the league.
Forfeits and Penalties:
Penalty for game forfeiture is $100.00. At the time of a first forfeit,
a check for $200.00 will be required before the next game to continue
play. Two forfeits result in expulsion from the league. If a second
game is not forfeited, $100.00 will be returned at the conclusion
of the season.
Playoffs:
There are no playoffs for the 2nd Grade and the Grammar Junior Divisions.
All other divisions conduct single elimination playoffs at the conclusion
of the season.
Players in all divisions must be present for 51% of the regular
season games to be eligible for the playoffs. Eg. 9 game schedule
- 5 games, 10 game Schedule - 6 games. Injured players may receive
credit for attendance only if the players notified the division
commissioner prior to the first game after injury.
Playing Rules and
Schoolyard Rules:
1. Abusive behavior or foul language will not be tolerated and will
result in dismissal from the schoolyard.
2. No beer or any alcoholic beverages are
allowed in the schoolyard or around the perimeter of the yard.
3. No basketballs in the yard other than
those belonging to the Summer Classic. Any basketballs in the yard
during the Summer Classic hours are considered the property of the
Summer Classic
4. Bicycles must be parked and locked by
the baseball dugout (129th St and RBB) and may not be ridden in
the yard during the Summer Classic hours. Skateboards are not allowed
in the yard during games. The Classic is not responsible for unlocked
bikes.
5. Spectators may not watch games from behind
any end-lines or between courts 1&2 and courts 3&4. Court
4 games may be viewed from court 3 or from the 128th St sidewalk
(outside the fence).
6. All players must wear team uniform shirt
and shorts. Additional shorts can be purchased at $10 a pair. A
player without a shirt must sit out of the game. Players may not
switch shirts during a game.
7. Game rules for youth divisions will be
those of the NFSHAA (Federation Rules) and game rules for adult
divisions will be NCAA (College Rules) with the following changes,
distinctions and clarifications:
a. Five players must be present at the start of the game or the
game will be forfeited, although a game may be started if a fifth
player is confirmed to be on the way. If the player does not show
up before halftime, it becomes a forfeit.
b. A scrimmage may be conducted in the event
of a forfeit, but in no case can a team begin play with less than
5 players, except as described in rule 7.a.
c. Forfeit time is 15 minutes after scheduled
start time or conclusion of a previous game, which ever is later.
Final decision to be made by the league officials. In the event
of a forfeit, those players on both teams present when the forfeit
is declared will be considered to have played. Scorer is to make
note of all players present and enter a 2 - 0 score in the score
book.
d. Each player must play a minimum of one
quarter in all youth divisions during the regular season. Penalty
is forfeiture of the game.
e. Pressing rules are as follows:
2nd Grade
No pressing, defense inside 3 point line
Grammar Junior
Allowed during last 2 minutes of game or if team trails by 10 points,
regular defense inside 3 point line
Boys Grammar Middle, Girls Grammar Senior
Allowed during last 2 minutes of game or if team trails by 10 points,
regular defense begins at half court
High School, Boys Grammar Senior
Defense begins at half court if leading by 15 points or more
f. 4 Full Time Outs per game in all divisions. One extra per overtime
period.
g. Game starts with a jump ball. Alternate
possession thereafter. Each overtime begins with a jump ball with
alternate possession thereafter.
h. All divisions shoot "1 and 1"
on the seventh team foul and 2 shots on the tenth team foul each
half..
i. Abuse of the officials, opponents, fans,
or foul language will result in an unsportsmanlike conduct technical
foul. Teams may be given a technical foul for abusive fan behavior.
j. Dunking during warm-ups, hanging on the
rim, or smacking the backboard without any reasonable attempt or
chance to play the ball will result in a technical foul.
k. All technical fouls will result in 2 free
throws, possession of the ball for the opposing team, a personal
foul for the offending player, and a team foul for the offending
team.
l. Two unsportsmanlike conduct technical
fouls on a player or coach in one game results in game disqualification
and a subsequent 2 game suspension.
m. A player or coach may be disqualified
prior to 2 technical fouls at the referee's or league official's
discretion.
n. Any player or coach disqualified twice
in a season will be ineligible to play or coach for the remainder
of the current season and the following season, and could face further
ineligibility or permanent suspension form the league.
o. Any player starting or instigating a fight
(aggressor) in a game will be ejected from the game and suspended
for a minimum of 2 games. Any other player involved will be ejected
and suspended for a minimum of one game. A technical foul will be
assessed for each player fighting. The rules committee however reserves
the right to assess additional penalties after reviewing any incident.
These additional penalties are final.
p. Any player involved in a confrontation,
in any way, with a referee or league official may be permanently
suspended.
q. Game times will be as follows:
Adult divisions - 2 halves, 20 minutes each
Youth Divisions - 4 quarters, 10 minutes each
Clock stops on time outs and shooting fouls only, except for the
last 30 seconds of any period, the last 2 minutes of any game, and
all overtimes, when it stops on all whistles. Games may be shortened
at the discretion of league officials.
r. Overtime will be 3 minutes. The clock
stops on all whistles in overtime. Team fouls (1 and 1) will be
carried over from the pervious period
s. Substitutions:
All substitutes must report to the scorers' table and must wait
to be waved in by the referee. Substitutions may be made at any
whistle but the clock does not stop unless otherwise required. The
substitutes must be physically present at the scorers' table prior
to the whistle for the player to enter. Any player that enters a
game may not leave until time has ticked off the clock and there
is another whistle.
t. One coach or captain must be designated
at the start of each game. The referee will consult this person
when there is a play or ruling that needs to be clarified. No other
person is to question the referee or scorers' table. Accordingly,
the referee and the scorers' table shall only address this coach
or captain. It is also this person's responsibility to communicate
these rules and all game times and changes to the team their parents,
and the fans. In addition, this person shall be responsible for
all roster and fee obligations, attendance at league meetings, filling
out and confirming the scorebook, and most importantly, controlling
the behavior of the team, the bench and all fans seated or standing
by the bench.
u. League officials have the final authority,
including overriding a game official, and have the authority to
disqualify and player or coach, at any time, for any conduct unbecoming
of the league and to take action in the best interest of the league.
