SFDS 2006 C.Y.O. Cross-Country
2006 season
is now over
All meets are held at Alley Pond Park located
at Springfield Blvd. and 76th Avenue in Queens.
Directions - Take the Belt Pkwy. east to the Cross Island Pkwy.
to Union Tpke. (Exit 28B). Left onto Union Tpke. (heading west)
to Springfield Blvd. Right onto Springfield Blvd. to 76th Ave. Make
a right onto 76th Ave.
OR - Take Cross Bay Blvd., bear right onto service road after Myrtle
Ave., make right onto Union Turnpike (heading east) to Springfield
Blvd. Left onto Springfield Blvd. to 76th Ave. Make a right onto
76th Ave.
There is a parking lot on the left. SFDS assembles across the field
from Finish Line.
Check in time for all meets is 11:15 a.m.
The first race starts at 12 noon. Please arrive at Alley Pond Park
by 11:15 a.m. so that runners can receive their race tag and warm-up
before their race.
Order of Races and Distances:
There are separate races for boys and girls, divided by age category.
1) Seniors - Ages 14, 13. Race approximately 1.1 miles.
2) Juniors - Ages 12, 11. Race a little over ¾ of a mile.
3) Novices - Ages 8, 7, 6*. Race a half-mile.
4) Bantams - Ages 10, 9. Race approximately .6 of a mile.
* Note: CYO minimum age is 6 years old by October 1, 2006.
Pacing of runners by coaches, parents or teammates during the race
is not allowed.
Meet Schedule:
Sunday, October
22, 2006 Developmental Half-Mile Races - All athletes
run a half-mile race. No Team Scoring. Individual medals to the
first 25 runners in each age group race.
Sunday, October 29, 2006 John
Bennett Cross Country Classic - Runners race their age group distance.
No Team Scoring. Individual medals to the first 25 runners in each
age group race.
Sunday, November 5, 2006 Marty
Enright Sectional Championships -Teams will be split into Yellow
and Black Divisions and will score separately. The places of the
top 3 finishers from each team in a raceare added. The team with
the lowest total is the champion, the next lowest score is 2nd,
etc. The top 5 teams in each division will receive large medals.
Individual medals to the first 15 runners in each division.
Sunday, November 12, 2006 - CYO Diocesan
Championship Same scoring as in Sectional hampionships. Top 5 teams
in each division will receive trophies and medals. Individual medals
to the first 15 runners.
Volunteers Needed
- Volunteers are needed to help the SFDS coaches with registering
and scoring our runners. In addition, to help the races run smoothly
and quickly, CYO requires each parish to supply four volunteers
to help with the races (course monitors, finish line help, etc.).
