Rules of the Games
Mission
The mission of the SFDS Program is to
provide participants from Grades K-9th Grade (based on grade in
September) a variety of sports activities with the primary goal
of skills development in the respective sport/activity with, team
work, sportsmanship, competition and fun for participants and families
and the opportunity to represent our Parish as additional goals.
Rules & Regulations
SFDS complies with all CYO RULES &
REGULATIONS particularly regarding eligibility. You are eligible
to participate in the SFDS CYO Program if you comply with the following:
-live within the Parish (east side of Beach 116th St. to 149th St.,
regardless of religion)
-attend SFDS School or Religious Education Program
-worship at SFDS as evidenced by a active "Weekly Collection
Envelope" (a Parishioner)
Eligibility
Where space is limited in a Program
or Programs, priority is given to those families that are Registered
with the SFDS Parish as active "REGISTERED PARISH FAMILIES."
These families are active in the religious life of the Parish, attend
Mass and receive Sacraments and contribute to the financial health
of the Parish ((Moderator's Policy Letter of September 2008). We
do NOT accept members from other Parishes ("waivered in").
We only grant "waivers out" to other CYO programs if a
SFDS participant is not selected due to space limitations.
Parents Responsibilities
CYO participation requires a commitment
on the part of both players and parents. Parents are required to
make an equal commitment to support all activities that their child/children
PARTICIPATE IN ON A "FAIR SHARE" BASIS." CYO understands
the demands that families have, but we need your support. CONSIDER
YOUR PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE, REGISTERING - parents not willing
to support CYO should not register.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM NOTES
The structure of CYO has a Parish Athletic
Representative (PAR) as the overall manager of CYO who reports to
the Moderator (one of our parish priests). Additionally, the Treasurer
assists the PAR in various matters and provides the required financial
controls and reports. Each respective Program has a Director in
charge. Any problems encountered, information needed, questions,
suggestions, etc. should be addressed first to the particular Coach,
then the Director or the CYO PAR. THE RECTORY, MODERATOR, PASTOR
OR CYO OUTSIDE OF THE PARISH SHOULD NOT BE CONTACTED WHEN A COACH,
DIRECTOR OR PAR CAN ASSIST YOU.
Required Uniforms
Several Programs (CYO Swimming, Cheerleading, Soccer and CYO Basketball)
require you to purchase uniform items. If so, these are your property.
Insurance
CYO provides insurance for participants on a "Secondary or
Supplemental" basis. You are required to file any insurance
claims with your insurance carrier(s) first and then via CYO's insurance
carrier through the PAR and Moderator.
Staying Current
Keeping up on what is going on in CYO requires you to get information.
Some sports are structured so that you get a call when assigned
to a team. Other sports do not contact you. The weekly Church Bulletin
is our only other source of information/announcements so keep up
on what is in the Bulletin. Every attempt is made to provide accurate
and timely information in the Church Bulletin.

Competition, "Playing Time" and
Sportsmanship
|
|
We live in a competitive society and our
teams compete in various CYO sports. Our mission, as stated
previously, mentions several goals. We want our players to
work hard, do their individual best , to work as a team and
enjoy their CYO experiences. Every participant should have
the same opportunity to improve his or hers skills, but in
team sports "playing time" is commensurate with
a player's skill level and experience. We should be competitive
in CYO sports but "winning is everything" is not
our policy. The goals of participation, team work and sportsmanship
do not have to be at odds with winning or competition. Coaches,
Parents and Players should all work together to achieve the
"balance" needed to compete, do our best, improve
skills, exhibit sportsmanship and let players enjoy their
sports experiences. It's not easy, and some parishes may not
have the same policy, but it's the "right thing"
to do for our children.
