CONFIRMATION PREPARATION
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
Two consecutive years of religious instruction
in preparation for Confirmation.
1. CLASS SESSION AND ATTENDANCE:
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION STUDENTS meet Monday evenings 7:00 PM - 8:00
PM. September 14th through June 7th . If for any reason a student
is absent, please provide an explanation in writing.
ST. FRANCIS SCHOOL STUDENTS will devote one
class period a week of their religion classes specifically to prepare
for Confirmation.
2. SERVICE PROJECTS:
A minimum of 15 hours is to be completed by February 22, 2010 and
reports handed in by, March 1, 2010.
3. LITURGICAL PREPARATIONS:
Enrollment Ceremony October 18, 2009 at the 9:00 A.M. Sunday Mass
Candidates Retreat February 1, 2010 (Monday) 5:00 PM-8:30 PM
4. PARENTS MEETINGS:
Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 7:00 PM In Gym

5. SPONSOR:
Parents should discuss with their child those qualities desirable
in a sponsor and help choose someone who will take an active interest
and part in the candidates preparation for Confirmation. A
sponsor must be a practicing Catholic, who can guide the candidate
by Christian example and attitudes. He/she must be at least 16 years
of age and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. He/she must
obtain a Sponsor Eligibility Form from his/her parish stating that
he/she is a practicing member of his/her parish. This form is due
no later than February 1, 2010. A godparent may be chosen as a sponsor.
However, the New Code of Canon Law does not permit a parent to act
as sponsor for their child.
6. CONFIRMATION NAME:
The candidates are required to research the life of the Saint whose
name they have chose and fill in the sheet that will be provided.
The sheet should contain a short essay on why they chose the name,
aspect of the Saints life they most admire and wish to imitate
and the Saints feast day. The report will be due February
8, 2010.
7. TESTING:
After each Chapter a Unit test will be given. Final comprehensive
test for Religious Ed. and St. Francis de Sales candidates will
be administered during the week of May 3rd.
ROLE OF THE PARENTS:
It is the parents role to support their child in preparing
for this very important Sacrament. Parental attitudes have a very
strong influence on children. Parental interest and participation
show the candidates that they consider the time of preparation important.
9. FEE PER CHILD:
A fee of $50.00 which covers:
Candidate Retreat
Confirmation Robe
Confirmation Mass & Booklets
Miscellaneous Costs
Fee is due with Application. Applications
will be given out the beginning of January
